Chad Ochocinco Changing His Last Name Yet Again

Oh boy. If NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell thought Chad Ochocinco’s name changing days were over, he has another thing coming.

Ochocinco announced on his live USTREAM broadcast Sunday morning that he will be legally changing his last name to “Hachi Go” next season.

“Hachi Go” is Japanese for 8 – 5.

While cooking breakfast, only six hours before his Cincinnati Bengals took on the Detroit Lions, he held up a custom made Cincinnati Bengals jersey with “Hachi Go” on the back.

“I’m not sure how Mr. Goodell is going to take it,” Ochocinco said as he held up the jersey.

But why “Hachi Go”?

A Japanese film crew was in town a couple weeks ago to do a piece on the Bengals for a NFL show over there. They said all NFL fans in Japan know who Chad Ochocinco is and they seriously made a proposal to Chad to change his last name to “Hachi Go”.

“Some fans of mine that are Japanese said I should change my last name to ‘Hachi Go’.”

He legally changed his name to Chad Javon Ochocinco on August 29, 2008. The Cincinnati Bengals decided to allow him to have it on the back of his jersey, though Ochocinco continued to wear his old “C. Johnson” jersey during the 2008 football season, due to contractual obligations with Reebok. He has played with “Ochocinco” on the back of his jersey since the 2009 preseason. He wanted it to read “Ocho Cinco” but the NFL will only allow his legal name as spelled on his name change paperwork.

this is all i have to say chad ochocinco needs to realize that theres no I in team and he is disrespecting the team, by his antics, and its embarrasing for me to stay loyal to a team that allows a grown man to act and respond that hes better then all, there are alot of people that are struggling in these times and for him to announce that its just money that there giving him the fine for, is a disgrace to the actual nfl, and he needs to grown up and play the sports for what it there for, its called a team sport and not for what he can do on the side lines if thats what he wants then put a costume on him and let him be the mascot.

  6. JAmes says:

No I in team, but there is a I in Win. I say go for it. If he’s gonna get fined $30K for wearing a sombrero and $20k for the dollar bill go ahead and change your name every year. Chad is just tryingto liven up this robot played 2 hand touch.

  7. If he were to do it correctly it’s be “hatchiju go” hatchi is Japanese for 8, while hatchiju is japanese for 80 and so to say “85″ in Japanese it’s “Hatchiju go”

  8. None says:

Scothorn, don’t be a stiff! Ochocinco is awesome! I personally wouldn’t act like this, but he makes me laugh and enjoy watching the NFL all that much more. He has fun out there! I am not even a Bengals fan, but watch them when possible, just because he is so fun to watch. He not only is great from a comical perspective, but he is an incredible talent, who plays as hard or harder than most WR’s I have ever seen, and I’ve been a die hard NFL fan for a long time. He enjoys a challenge, and I absolutely guarantee you he is a winner, and wants to help that team win more than anything. Don’t buy into appearances so much, and don’t let the shananigans fool you, this guy IS a team player and a winner, and you should feel lucky to have him on your team! Besides, half of the Bengals roster are convicted felons and do way worse things than him. When he starts making the news for beating up women or getting arrested for drinking and driving, then you have something to worry about. Until then, I think his sideline shananigans are a very small pill to swallow and at least you don’t have to worry about him letting you down on Sundays because he is sitting in a jail cell somewhere or on house arrest.

I just read about this because of a friend’s facebook link, but seriously… some of you are just tarded. considering he wanted his last name to be ‘eight five’ in spanish instead of ‘eighty-five’ should explain why japanese people would suggest ‘hachi go’ instead of ‘hachijugo’… they obviously have more brains than you all who made such idiotic remarks. if you can’t put two and two together, then there is no point in me holding you hand through it, you still wouldn’t understand.

regardless, people with money do weird things because people like you pay them that money. while indirect, it’s still you. keep you tongue in their butts and pay them, or don’t complain what they think of to spend money on… you help them become overpaid, they need ways to waste it on non-charity things.

  14. Parker says:

I don’t care what Ochocinco does. He loves the limelight, and if his play on the field won’t earn him that, he’ll find another way to be in it. I think it’s funny how critical people are of his choice of translation. Johnson (who he was at the time) knew exactly what he was changing his name to. As he does now. He wants to be Eight Five (Not eighty-five). He knows the translation, we don’t need to tell him.

  15. GB says:

It’s a shame. He lost his legacy with all these name changes. What will his wife be called or children, especially his son(s).

  16. Jack says:

HEY CHAD? YOU’RE AN IDIOT!!! WHY DON’T YOU JUST FREAKIN’ WORRY ABOUT WINNING A SUPERBOWL???!!! LEGENDS LIKE JIM BROWN, DICK BUTKUS, GAYLE SAYERS, JOHNNY UNITAS, WALTER PAYTON & THE LIKES ARE ROLLING OVER IN THEIR GRAVES AT THIS SELFISH, “LOOK! IT’S THE ALL ABOUT CHAD SHOW”. YOU CONTINUE TO FIND WAYS TO DISPLAY COMPLETELY CLASSLESS, MORONIC BEHAVIOR!!!

I’LL BET MOMMY JOHNSON IS REAL PROUD HER SON TURNED OUT LIKE A RICH, SPOILED, MORON!!!

who cares if it isn’t correct in Japanese. Ocho cinco isn’t 85 in Spanish either. Its a joke.

  19. whodey says:

I am a huge Chad Ocho Cinco fan. Is he self-promoting? Of course, he’s great at it. But he’s done a lot more for the town of Cincinnati and Bengals fans than any player in a long time. Chad’s disposition is awesome compared to other athletes are out there who are doing drugs, shooting people (and themselves), involved in sex scandals, etc. Here you have a guy that is definitely a little full of himself, but all in all a great person.

When a home game didn’t sell out this season (meaning it wouldn’t be shown on TV for tons of Bengals fans throughout Ohio) Mr. Ochocinco organized the purchase of 1500+ tickets and gave them away in downtown Cincy. What other NFL player would do that? That completely won me over as fan. He’s involved, he meets 100 fans every Thursday and takes them out to a movie, he flies random fans in from around the country each home game – gives them hotel all weekend, rents them a car and gives them access the stadium pre and post game. He is truly a fan’s player. I’ve heard other generous stories about him such as taking mall employees around the stores during Christmas time and buying them gifts and just randomly handing out money to people.

And by the way those fines he pays go to the charity of his choice and he matches dollar for dollar any fine he is given. So that $30,000 fine turns in to a generous $60,000 donation for a local charity during the holidays. I wish all profesional athletes were “rich spoiled morons” like Chad Ochocinco.

I would also assume that Reebok and the NFL would welcome a name change every year. Die hard fans have to buy the newest jersey, hat, apparel, etc. Ocho Cinco on the back of your shirt won’t be current in the 2010 season. Seems like it’s a win-win.

  21. Karl S says:

For people to complain about a man’s name change – a man who is, after all, an entertainer – and stoop to childish name-calling demonstrates more about you than Chad Ochocinco (soon to be Hachi Go).

Throwing around names like Walter Payton, Johnny Unitas, etc. and miserably failing to realize the entertainment aspect that is fundamental to the NFL borders on …

But just in case you don’t think he’s earned it as a good player himself, the guy is averaging almost 15 yards a catch and is ranked as the 10th best wide receiver in the league.

Yeah, I’d say his mother should be proud of her son for him getting to the NFL and making it somewhat entertaining. At least his mom brought him up well enough to know not to bring their mom into it. You know, old school values and all that.

They really should just let him put anything on his back as long as its for the entire season, and its not offensive. Who really cares if its just for kitsch value?

Seriously though it keeps his jersey sales up even when he isn’t having a great season so hes making himself extra money by being eccentric besides for a while there were like 9 Johnsons on the bengals.
