Posted By Glenn S. Moore on Saturday, July 17th, 2010, 3:07 pm

DSS #071 - July 17, 2010

“The Dugout Sports Show” was live from Ganley Volkswagen/Subaru in Bedford, Ohio on July 17th. I was joined by Tony Mazur from the Cleveland Sports Report.

We were also joined by AM 850 WKNR sports talk show host Sabrina Parr.  She joined our show right after purchasing one of the many great vichles at Ganley Volkswagen/Subaru in Bedford. She came on and talked about LeBron leaving Cleveland, the impact on the city, and also a little Cleveland Browns and Ohio State football.

You can listen to the Sabrina Parr interview podcast here.

We hit on the wackiest MLB disabled list stories that hit the news recently as well as the great ones from years past.  The passing of George Steinbrenner was discussed including the million dollar question…what if “The Boss” took over the Cleveland Indians back in the 70s?

PROGRAMMING NOTE: On July 31st, we will have our “DSS Listener Appreciation Day” at Ganley Volkswagen/Subaru from 10am-2pm ET. We will be broadcasting outside, Wii HR Derby will be out, and prizes to go around. So make sure to come on out! Great times, great food, and prizes! And more importantly, it’s the chance for us to say thank you to the listeners! More information will be posted!

“The Dugout Sports Show” is live every Saturday from 11am-1pm ET

at Ganley Volkswagen/Subaru in Bedford, Ohio.

Indians Kerry Wood To Begin Rehab Assignment

Posted By Glenn S. Moore on Sunday, May 2nd, 2010, 12:13 pm

Kerry Wood begins his rehab assignment tomorrow night for the Double-A Akron Aeros. (Cleveland.com)

Kerry Wood is one step closer to making his 2010 Cleveland Indians debut, as he will begin a rehab assignment tomorrow night with Double-A Akron Aeros.

Wood began the season on the disabled list with a strained right lat after making two appearances in spring training. He pitched two scoreless innings giving up one hit and striking out two.

Since Wood has been on the disabled list, Chris Perez has assumed the closing role for the Tribe. He has saved four of the Tribe’s ten wins, but started the season very shaky. He is 0-1 with a 3.52 ERA.

When Wood returns, Perez will go back to the setup role.

Akron will take on the Trenton Thunder (NYY affiliate) tomorrow night at 7:05pm.

2010 Cleveland Indians Press Tour : Day 1 : Jensen Lewis

Posted By Glenn S. Moore on Wednesday, January 27th, 2010, 2:31 am

Cleveland Indians relief pitcher Jensen Lewis knows that if the Tribe are to contend for the American League Central, he will play a key role in obtaining the title.

Lewis spoke with the media in Akron, Ohio during Day One of the Cleveland Indians Media Tour on Tuesday. He pointed to the rotation and bullpen working with new coaches Tim Belcher and Scott Radinsky.

“We are really excited about the staff. At some point, all of us on the pitching side have worked with Belcher and Radinsky. From a cohesion standpoint the team chemistry is there and now it’s just understanding what Manny (Acta) expects from us.”

Lewis spent his offseason in the Cleveland area, throwing at the ballpark and staying focused at the season ahead. And it will be important for him to return to 2007 form.

He was a key piece in the Indians appearance in the American League Championship League against the Boston Red Sox. After being called up from Triple-A Buffalo, he was one of many relief pitchers who were counted on to get guys out and he did not disappoint.

From August 25th thru the end of the season, he posted an ERA of 0.57 (15.2 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 15 K). But in 2008, he was put in the closer role for the latter part of the season, saving 13 games and posting a 3.82 ERA.

2009 was a different story. After starting the year in the Cleveland bullpen, he was sent down to Triple-A Columbus. He pitched well at the AAA level, throwing 18.2 scoreless innings only to be recalled and pitched effectively over the last six weeks of the season.

On Manny Acta: “I met him during his first week. I think we are all excited and its pretty anonymous that we anxious to see what the new regime is like.”
