John Dutton, left, and Ben Nelson received weekly honors from the AFL for their play against the Tulsa Talons on Saturday.
The Cleveland Gladiators are pleased to announce that John Dutton and Ben Nelson have been awarded the RUSSELL ATHLETIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK and NIFTY PLAYMAKER OF THE GAME, respectively, by the Arena Football League office this afternoon. The Gladiators defeated the Tulsa Talons 68-55 in Week 7.
Dutton became the seventh player all-time in AFL history to reach 30,000 passing yards and just the sixth player all time to throw for 600 touchdowns in a career. Both accomplishments were reached in the first half of the win over Tulsa. Dutton finished the game 28-of-48 passing for 397 yards, nine touchdowns and no interceptions. The nine touchdowns tied the Cleveland franchise single-game record and set a new Quicken Loans Arena record.
Nelson caught a season-best 202 yards on 13 catches and six touchdowns. He was the recipient of Dutton’s 600th touchdown late in the second quarter. He also caught the final touchdown pass of the night, sealing the win. With his performance, he now leads the league in total scoring with 144 points.
